HELLO
Hi, I’m Adam – founder of Custom Lithium, lifelong creator, and someone who genuinely loves solving problems and building better solutions. Whether it’s upgrading an EV battery or helping families beat loadshedding, I’m passionate about using creativity and hands-on experience to make energy solutions that truly work for real people.
OUR STORY
I’ve always been a bit of a tinkerer — someone who loves taking things apart just to see how they work (and hopefully getting them back together better than before). Cars have been a lifelong passion of mine, but what really drives me is finding real-world solutions that help people.

Custom Lithium really started because I wanted to do something practical about our electricity challenges. I saw friends and families struggling with constant outages, so I started building affordable, reliable battery backup systems that could actually make a difference in their daily lives.

A friend once joked: “I wish I could be like Adam — wake up with an idea to build a plane, and just build it.” That pretty much sums me up. I’m endlessly curious, and not afraid to dive in and figure things out along the way.

What began as a homegrown effort to solve local energy problems kept evolving. In 2017, I moved to Johannesburg and got serious about refining my battery designs. My own Nissan Leaf became my testing ground — the first car I converted with a custom lithium battery solution. Word spread quickly. Before long, other EV owners were reaching out for help with their battery upgrades. And just like that, Custom Lithium grew into a business.

One of my favorite recent projects is a BMW i3 that had been abandoned for years — it was a non- runner, the bodywork was untidy, and most people would’ve written it off. But I saw potential. I restored the battery pack, the paint and interior, and got it back on the road. Seeing that car come back to life was incredibly rewarding.

But I’m nowhere near finished. I’m working on bigger ideas now — like an electric tractor, off-grid EV safari vehicles, and even an electric jet ski prototype. I’m also planning hands-on workshops and webinars for other DIYers and innovators who want to learn, experiment, and build their own solutions.

With City & Guilds qualifications in electric vehicles, and years of hands-on experience, I don’t just design on paper — I test, tweak, and make it work in real life. My workshop isn’t just a lab, It’s a launchpad for practical, custom solutions in a world that’s going electric, one project at a time.
